When this letter was published in the Derry Post Magherafelt Council despite being asked could not think of a respone
Why would Edwin Poots take Transforming Your Care to the people in Mid Ulster when regardless of what was said the pre agreement with Magherafelt Council and the Trust was already going ahead and being kept secret from the public. Save The mid will keep the current line of communication open with the Health Minster to ensure Mid Ulster Hospital has a voice, how did Edwin Poots expect Mid Ulster residents to respond to the review if they did not know what was happening to the hospital.
This is out and out corruption, and not unlike the same corruption that led to the attempt to shut the statutory nursing homes earlier this year, there was prior knowledge of these closures by government, so much so that private nursing homes even had spaces reserved to buy the patients from the Trust. Like the nursing homes this can be stopped if people backed by the council say no. Cookstown Council fully support residents in Cookstown when the health cuts came why could Magherafelt not do the same.
The Northern Trust has faced scandal after scandal since it removed Mid Ulster, unfortunately Magherafelt Council bought into this scandal and serious questions must be asked as this is leaving the doors open to privatize the Hospital site. It is time to make Antrim Hospital safe to deal with the work load it will be expected to in the future and this begins by enhancing services at Mid Ulster Hospital.
This agreement that they made, is on paper made in the name of every resident in the Magherafelt District, in reality the council could not of got it more wrong, even with their hand picked crowd the public objected to the plans, but as this is being done outside of the TYC consultation will the public be listened to. We do not need a health village where the services provided will treat a small percentage of mid Ulster residents we need substantial and meaningful services for everyone.
