They are: Dr Carol Ackah; Mr Stanley Forsythe; Mr Robert McCann; Ms Pamela Montgomery; Mr Jim Moore; Mr Mervyn Rankin; and Professor Dorothy Whittington.
The re-appointments which were made in accordance with the Code of Practice issued by the Commissioner for Public Appointments for Northern Ireland are for the period 1 April 2011 to 31 March 2015.
The Northern HSC Trust is managed directly by a board of directors which has corporate responsibility for its operation. The board is made up of five executive directors and seven non-executive directors and a non-executive Chair.
Notes to Editors: 1. Dr Carol Ackah MSSc BA MCIPD lives in Lambeg. She is presently a self-employed consultant in Human Resource management, having formerly been a lecturer at the University of Ulster. Until November 2010 she was a Local Government Staff Commissioner. Dr Ackah is currently an Industrial Tribunal (NI) member, for which she receives a daily allowance of £174.00 and is a Fair Employment Tribunal Member for which she also receives £174.00 per day. Dr Ackah was a Non-Executive Director of the former United Hospitals Health & Social Services (HSS) Trust. She has been a serving member of the Northern Health and Social Care (HSC) Trust since its establishment on 1 April 2007. Dr Ackah comes from a background of public sector management and in particular will bring to her role on the board her specialist knowledge and skills in Human Resources Management and employee relations. She has engaged in political activity in the last five years, having served as a member of the Committee of the Northern Ireland Constituency of the Labour Party.
2. Mr Stanley Forsythe BSc DipEd lives in Coleraine. Now retired, Mr Forsythe was headmaster of both Royal School Dungannon from 1974 - 1984 and Coleraine Academical Institution from 1984 – 2003, and worked in the education sector for almost 40 years. Mr Forsythe was a Non-Executive Director of the former Causeway HSS Trust. He has been a serving member of the Northern HSC Trust since its establishment on 1 April 2007. Mr Forsythe brings to his role his many years experience dealing with young people and their widely varied family environments, which has been of benefit in the fields of social care and adoption during his term on the board of the Trust. He holds no other public appointments and has not engaged in any political activity in the last five years.
3. Mr Bob McCann BSc FCCA lives in Newtownabbey. Mr McCann has held a variety of senior positions in Viridian Group PLC (formerly NI Electricity) including Group Financial Controller and Finance Director of Sx3. He is the Chair of the Audit Committee of the NI Commissioner for Children & Young People and the independent member of the Audit Committee of the NI Housing Executive. He is also a member of the NI General Consumer Council, for which he receives a daily rate of £101.34, and was a Non-Executive Director of the former United Hospitals HSS Trust. He has been a serving member of the Northern HSC Trust since its establishment on 1 April 2007. He brings to his role on the Trust board his senior management experience in both the public and private sectors, together with his specialist knowledge in finance and governance issues. Mr McCann has not engaged in any political activity in the last five years.
4. Ms Pamela Montgomery PhD BA lives in Greenisland. Ms Montgomery is a self-employed consultant specialising in strategy and organisational development. Prior to this she worked for Atlantic Philanthropies, as Global Director of Reconciliation and Human Rights. She was a Non-Executive Director of the former Homefirst Community HSS Trust. She has been a serving member of the Northern HSC Trust since its establishment on 1 April 2007. Ms Montgomery brings to her role on the Trust board a knowledge base of strategic management to the Board and practical experience of, and an interest in, equality and human rights. Ms Montgomery holds no other public appointments and has not engaged in any political activity in the last five years.
5. Mr Jim Moore MBA LLM BA lives in Carrickfergus. He is Professional Head of Signaling at Translink, having specific responsibility for the Northern Ireland Railways signaling network. He was previously Operations Manager at Richardsons Fertiliser Industries. Mr Moore is Chair of the board of governors of a local primary school and is also a Director of Sentinus, a registered charity promoting training in science, engineering and maths in schools in Northern Ireland. He has been a serving member of the Northern HSC Trust since its establishment on 1 April 2007. Mr Moore brings to his role on the Trust board his skills and knowledge from his current and previous employment which enables him to challenge and support his board colleagues in the areas of Performance, Finance, Human Resources, Organisational Development and Corporate Risks. He holds no other public appointments and has not engaged in any political activity in the last five years.
6. Mr Mervyn Rankin lives in the Portglenone area. Mr Rankin was formerly Chief Executive of Ballymena Borough Council for 15 years until his retirement in 2006. He was involved in a variety of community engagement and development work and brings his leadership, people and strategic management skills, together with his wide knowledge of central and local government involvement to his role as a Non-Executive Director on the HSC Trust. He is currently a voluntary director on a Community company (Ballymena Business Centre). Mr Rankin is Chairman of the Local Government Staff Commission for Northern Ireland, for which he receives £14,114 per annum. He has been a serving member of the Northern HSC Trust since its establishment on 1 April 2007. He has not engaged in any political activity in the past 5 years.
7. Prof Dorothy Whittington MA MEd CPsychol lives in Whitehead. Until her retirement in 2006, Prof Whittington was Director of Education & Research at North Bristol NHS Trust. Previously, she was Professor of Health Psychology and Head of the School of Health Science at the University of Ulster, Jordanstown. Until 2010, she was a Director and trustee of the Higher Education Academy. Prof Whittington is a lay accreditor for the General Medical Council and for the Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland. She has been a serving member of the Northern HSC Trust since its establishment on 1 April 2007. Professor Whittington brings to her role on the Trust board her longstanding interest in education for clinical professions and in healthcare governance and quality improvement. She has published widely in these areas. She is an experienced senior manager in both higher education and the NHS. She holds no other public appointments and has not engaged in any political activity in the last five years.
8. Non-executive directors to the Northern HSC Trust receive an annual remuneration of £7,803.
9. The appointments were made with the approval of the then Minister for Health, Social Services and Public Safety. There are no specific qualifications for appointment.
10. All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, the Commissioner for Public Appointments for Northern Ireland requires the political activity of appointees to be published. Dr Ackah declared that she has engaged in political activity in the last five years.
