Under the previous health minster Micheal Mc Gimpsey in 2010 there was a move to have less of a reliance on the private sector, according to figures in the FOI there was a decrease in the use of the private sector. link
Under thew current health Minister Edwin Poots, we have seen over a 3005 increase in the amount of Day case/Inpatient cases sent to the private sector alone.
- 96,020 patients were sent to the private sector for Outpatient treatment.
- 28,121 patients were sent to the private sector for Daycase/Inpatient treatment.
Several private health companies have benefited great form these contracts, 352 private health care has received £22,969,145 from these contracts, a full list of these can be seen below, that also include the high use of the Mater in Dublin for cardiac services
