2011 –
· Combined total of 353 falls from trolleys/beds inside the hospitals, Antirm accounted for 49% of all falls.
· Type 1 acute facility (Antrim & Causeway) combined total of 241 falls from beds/trolleys, Antrim accounted for 72% of these.
· On average there were 15 falls a month at Antrim Hospital.
· On average there were 6 falls a month at Causeway hospital.
· On average there were 4 falls a month at The Mid Ulster Hospital.
· On average there were 6 falls a month at Whiteabbey Hospital
2012, to date (Jan – Sept) –
· Combined total of 238 falls from trolleys/beds inside the hospitals, Antrim account for 50% of these, an increase form the previous year
· Type 1 acute facility (Antrim & Causeway) combined total of 190 falls from beds/trolleys, Antrim accounted for 63% of these.
· On average there were 12 falls a month at Antrim Hospital.
· On average there were 8 falls a month at Causeway hospital.
· On average there were 1 falls a month at The Mid Ulster Hospital.
· On average there were 4 falls a month at Whiteabbey Hospital
Save The Mid have paper copies of the Serious adverse instance reports from the deaths at both Antrim & Causeway Hospitals due to falls, these can only be obtained in paper format. Contact Hugh for more details: [email protected]
This clearly shows that inpatients within the Mid Ulster hospital were more looked after in terms of fall than in any other facility, the other facilitates may be larger but that does not diminish the staffing levels needed per patient per ward to ensure their safety. All hospitals are described by the Trust as being fully staffed in terms of nursing.
