While we are starting to see other political parties jump on the blame the Health Trust bandwagon, they must take a measure of responsibility for these themselves.
For many years issues within the Northern Trust have been well documented by Save The Mid, yet despite this there was a total failure in government to hold these the Northern trust To Account.
Now we see the announcement of another meaningless review, how many reviews must it take to see the obvious.
The issue's we see now come after years of health cuts, the capacity within our acute health system has shrunk to dangerous levels and as a result of this people have died.
What is needed is an investigation akin to that of the investigation undertaken after the Mid Staff hospital crisis not another well intended review.
During 2011 and 2012 Save the Mid raised the issue of rising still births, raised the issues for high numbers of investigations into deaths and called for an investigation into practices within the Northern Health & Social Care Trust.
On 9 June 2010 the Secretary of State for Health, Andrew Lansley MP, announced a full public inquiry into the role of the commissioning, supervisory and regulatory bodies in the monitoring of Mid Staffordshire Foundation NHS Trust.
The Inquiry is established under the Inquiries Act 2005 and is chaired by Robert Francis QC, who will make recommendations to the Secretary of State based on the lessons learnt from Mid Staffordshire. It will build on the work of his earlier independent inquiry into the care provided by Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust between January 2005 and March 2009.
The final report of the Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust Public Inquiry was published on Wednesday 6 February 2013. Please click here to access a copy of the report, as well as details of the Chairman's public statement on the day.
What needs to happen within the Northern Trust and health across Northern Ireland is an independent investigation like the Francis report, it is clear that the Health Committee and Assembly have failed to hold the Trust to account, it is even clearer that on a local level any stance against the Trusts has been diluted by their party colleges in the Assembly.
