Save The Mid Accuse The Northern Health & Social Care Trust Of Dirty Tricks
Thompson house patients not moved / under staffed / ward 2 deemed unsafe to move patients into. Attached future plans for Thompson House that were done at a cost of £12,000 without public consultation.
In October 2011 the Northern Health & Social Care Trust wrote letters to Mid Ulster MLA's and informed staff that Thompson House, Ward 6, at the Mid Ulster Hospital would be moving to Ward 2 in November. During the Trust Board meeting in October the board failed to pass approval for the move where they could be questioned in public, favoring taking the decision in private. And despite Mid Ulster MLA's being fully aware of the move not one of them spoke out.
Staff were informed that patients were to move on the weekend of the 19th-20th November, this did not happen. According to Save The Mid sources in the Hospital the move was prevented due to questionable issues with the floor in Ward 2. Ward 2 is a relatively new ward shut in June 2011after being upgraded in 2009, and won top marks in a Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority (RQIA) Unannounced Hygiene Inspection in March 2010 - http://www.northerntrust.hscni.net/about/902.htm.
Already Save The Mid chair Hugh McCloy challenged Sean Donaghy in a meeting, CEO of the Northern Trust, over unsafe staffing levels of Occupational Therapists in Thompson House, an issue that is still unresolved 5 months later, now patients face a double blow over questionable issues of the flooring in Ward 2. We are facing a real risk that these patients who require care could be sent into the community instead of receiving the care they require in a hospital environment.
Save The Mid will be writing to the Health Minister to resolve this issue, Mr Poots is already on record stating that the Mid Ulster Hospital was rundown, it seems those who run it down in the past are still running the Mid Ulster down under his watch and crating clinical problems for patients from across Northern Ireland who are currently admitted to Thompson House.
The Northern Trust are continuing to do what they done in the past, create a clinically unsafe environment behind the scenes so that they can remove services, what is more worrying is that they are doing this without public consultation during a Health review. I am now calling for no more cloak and dagger tactics and challenge the Northern Trust, Patient & Client Council and Health Minister to finally face the people of Mid Ulster in Mid Ulster and bring a end to 10 years of dirty tricks aimed at removing the once great Mid Ulster Hospital.
