It was found during the hearing that Dr Nowak was employed by the Northern Health & Social Care Trust as a Locum Consultant Anaesthetist on the 1st June 2010 until the 19th November 2010, however during his short time several problems arose with both patients and staff:
· Patient A (31st Aug 2010), Dr Nowak was found guilty of not providing good clinical care during a Spinal Anaesthetist procedure. From the report the patient was a mother giving birth, it was found that he absented himself from the delivery suit without informing staff of his whereabouts, complications arose with the patient in his absence and Dr Nowak did not return to the patient until she was stabilised. He was also guilty of acting inappropriately to another doctor know as Dr G.
· Patient B (15 Oct 2010); Dr Nowak was found guilty of failing to provide good clinical care, in where he failed in pre-operative assessment of the patients, and not possessing adequate knowledge of the drugs the he administered to the patient. It was found that after he failed to listen to concerns of the nursing staff be prescribed a dose of paracetamol at a level exceeding the recommended dose.
· Patient C (20th Oct 2010); Dr Nowak was found guilty of failing to provide good clinical care where he again failed to make adequate pre-operative assessments of the patient, failed to see and react to the patient’s condition deteriorating and the onset of anaphylaxis (Anaphylaxis is a serious allergic reaction that is rapid in onset and may cause death). During this he did not call for assistance and dismissed the help of another anaesthetic college. During the operstion that was a circumcision the patient had to be recusatated.
